XIM Matrix Not Connecting to PS5? How to Fix It

XIM Matrix connects to a PS5 differently from an Xbox. It uses Remote Play over your local network, so most PS5 problems come down to the network, registration or a PS5 setting. Find the stage where yours fails, then work through that section.

These steps follow XIM's official PS5 guide and troubleshooting page.

Check these first

  • Firmware: update first if a new version is out. Our XIM Matrix firmware guide covers each step.
  • Ethernet: the XIM Matrix must be connected to your network with an Ethernet cable, which is not included in the box.
  • PS5 connection: go to Settings / Network and check that Connection Status says Wired. XIM says the PS5 must be wired for best results.
  • Config output: your config must output as a PS5 controller. In a custom config, set the output to Controller (PS5).
  • Remote Play: go to Settings / System / Remote Play and make sure Enable Remote Play is on for your account.

Network status won't say Connected

In XIM MATRIX Manager, press the connection settings button and open Connection Method. If it never gets past Acquiring IP:

  1. Connect the XIM and PS5 directly to the same router or switch if you can.
  2. Look at the network lights on the back of the XIM. Green should be on, and yellow should be on and blinking.
  3. If they aren't, try a different Ethernet cable or a different router port.

Registration keeps failing

Something on your local network may be stopping the XIM from finding your PS5.

  1. Reboot your router and your PS5, then register again.
  2. Check that you're logged in to the PS5 with the same account you're registering.
  3. If it still fails, use manual registration: start registering, then press and hold Cancel until the manual registration screen opens. Enter your encoded PSN account ID. XIM's guide links to lookup tools for this.
  4. If that fails too, repeat manual registration and also enter your PS5's IP address. You'll find it under Settings / Network / Connection Status / View Connection Status.

Registered, but it won't connect the first time

  • Remove any PIN from your PS5 account.
  • Turn off auto-login.
  • Fully power down the PS5, then start it again.

It worked before, but now it won't connect

Your PS5's network address has most likely changed. This can happen when you fully power it down, or when it switches between wired and Wi-Fi. The XIM normally finds the new address on its own. If it doesn't, register again.

Connected, but input feels laggy

Check that your PS5 isn't on Wi-Fi. XIM warns that a PS5 set up as wired can sometimes switch back to Wi-Fi by itself.

How to tell it worked

While connecting, the XIM quickly blinks white twice, over and over. Once connected, it flashes green, a popup appears on your screen, and Manager shows a green dot. For any other colour, see what every XIM Matrix light means.

No Ethernet near your PS5?

XIM's guide also describes a direct USB option using a third-party device called P5General, plugged into port 3. It needs a config with the Controller (Xbox, PS, PC) output type, and you skip the registration step.
